Pray for Sarah and other victims of human trafficking
“The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me… He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners.” -Isaiah 61:1
This is part 1 of a 2-part prayer request for Sarah*, a victim of human trafficking.
A BGR partner has established a safe house and rehabilitation center in a Southeast Asian country that helps female human trafficking victims escape their current situations and start over. The women receive free room and board and counseling while also learning job skills and completing or furthering their educations. Their children are welcomed and encouraged to live at the center with their mothers, and they have opportunities to advance their schooling, as well. The women and children can also participate in prevention classes that cover the dangers of human trafficking and encourage alternative solutions to financial problems.
Sarah is one of these women. The police picked her up for prostitution and for sleeping on public transportation. She was living on the streets with her boyfriend, who trafficked her and her sister for food and cigarettes. She only ate once a day, if at all. They slept wherever they could find a place.
This girl was only 15 and too young for a government rehabilitation center, but the police couldn’t send her back to her family because her hometown was too far away. The government social department heard about the Center so they sent her there.
Sarah felt scared when she arrived, and she cried nonstop while the staff explained the program to her. She stopped crying abruptly when she heard she could earn money to send to her family. Though she had a rough exterior, Sarah was very concerned about her mother and about providing for her.
At the center, Sarah has now begun a new life and has hope for the future. Please pray for the program as it reaches out to vulnerable women.
- Pray more women will hear about the center and will want to enroll.
- Pray the staff can build trust with vulnerable women as well as with the mafia bosses who control them.
- Praise God for the center’s Christian contact at the government social department office. Pray he will remain in this influential position and advocate for the program.
Thank you for praying,
The BGR Team
