Japan Flooding July 11, 2018

Disaster Response | Print

Japan’s recent floods have killed 179 people and forced the government to order another eight million to evacuate their homes. Over 270,000 households have lost water, and many remain without electricity.  The disaster hit the Okayama, Hiroshima, and Yamaguchi prefectures the hardest.  The government is housing many of the survivors in schools and gymnasiums. Baptist Global Response is in touch with personnel in the affected areas, and aid workers are determining how best to help during the current crisis. Neither the national government nor local response officials are requesting help from outside the country.  Should they request volunteers from the USA, BGR will ask its network of trained responders to send teams. Additional updates will be posted to the BGR website if the situation warrants.
