A 9-year-old makes a difference

“You need to be the difference for other people,” says 9-year-old Austin Billingsley. This young man knows a thing or two about being the difference.

One morning at Bear Cove Baptist Church in Sparta, Tenn., Austin saw the BGR Spring Catalog in a Sunday School classroom. After reading about the ways he can help people in need around the world, he felt inspired to do something. With help from his mom and Halo Screen Printing and Embroidery, Austin sold t-shirts that said, “Be the Difference,” around his community. He picked out a theme verse, Hebrews 13:16, for the back of the shirt. The verse says, “Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God.”

In only six weeks, Austin sold 242 shirts!

On Aug. 1, Austin presented a check for over $2,000 to BGR! His gift will help build a water well, construct a new home and purchase farm animals and seeds. Thank you, Austin, for improving the lives of men, women and children around the world!
